Charity using Social Media

Charity, the act of contributing something of yourself to a non-profit cause or concern by my definition, is an important part of who I am. Charity work is an important part of my business.

The simple act of helping an organization or individual who truly can benefit from my time gives me great joy.

Social Media is a very powerful tool for charities. It’s easy, widely available and a great way to promote. Many big charities are already widely using Social Media, small charities need to take advantage of it too.

Some ideas to help charities when all you can give is time and knowledge.

  • Volunteer
  • Write a letter or blog about it
  • Spread the word using Social Media
  • Tell your friends how happy you’ve been because your are helping a charity
  • Ask friends to help too
  • Get involved!

My latest endeavor is creating a team for the St. Jude Children’s Hospital GiveThanksWalk campaign. My friend Sam from St. Jude is a wonderful man and I am truly inspired by him. We met on Twitter, I think it was fate, destiny or whatever. Sometimes things just happen for good reasons.

Hey Maria, great post and ideas! I think giving back to the community is very important. I wish I had more time to do it myself. It’s definitely giver’s gain and you can also meet a lot of great people out and about like you said.
